Recording at Springhouse: Over the past few months I have been doing the bulk of my music capturing at Springhouse Sound in King of Prussia, PA. The studio is owned and operated by my very good friend Carl Bahner, who, in addition to putting together a killer recording room, is an amazing drummer and multi-instrumentalist. The live room sounds great, there is a killer collection of drums, percussion and microphones available, and the studio is host to a 24 channel Cadac console. The preamps and EQ on this board sound great on everything I’ve thrown at it. Recently I recorded the basic tracks for Satellite Hearts forthcoming LP there. We were floored by the drum and bass sounds we had going straight into Pro Tools.
The studio itself is very home-y and comfortable, there’s plenty of coffee to go around, and the neighborhood has got everything you could want in short distance. Including, as I found out this weekend, a cigar shop with walk in humidor.
Carl and I are working together to bring more full length music projects into Springhouse this… spring… I’d love to share the great experience of making music here with more independent bands!
Studio extracurricular activities include bocce ball.

My good friend Reed Kendall recorded this album with a great group of musicians, including drum extraordinaire Matt Scarano at Waking Studio through late 2012 and 2013.  ”For to Give Away” stands out as a beautiful, desolate, and haunting piece of music. Reed’s put out that I actually want to pay him for my vinyl copy of the record.

Ali is one of the most talented singers in Philadelphia. This record was made up of songwriting contributions from independent songwriters mostly from Philly, reinterpreted by a slew of sick musicians including Dan Schwartz and Tim Arnold of Good Old War, Jaron Olevsky of Amos Lee, and Philip D’Agostino of every band in need of a bassist in Philly.

One of the milestones of my past year has been meeting, recording, and playing with The Lawsuits, all of which has culminated around the release of this killer collection of songs. They’re some of my favorite people in the world and I can’t think of a better group of Philly musicians to play with.

One of the first records I worked on when I came to Waking Studio. I had first recorded Ron Gallo when he was bit a wee boy fresh on the Philly music scene, it felt like a homecoming to be part of this album as the band steadily becomes an American power house.

Mastered by Ryan Schwabe at the Maniac Mansion

After having reworked Brian’s song “Hurricane Blues” for Ali Wadsworth’s record, this was our first chance to collaborate directly on the production of a song. It began from a demo that Brian made and then we shot it back and forth over the internet adding vocals and instrumentation before taking it to Converse Rubber Tracks recording studio in Brooklyn New York to add Josh’s drums and fatten the whole thing up to make a super slick pop recording.

I recorded this EP with Alexis Powell (formerly of Festival) in the Spring of 2012. It was a really fun and memorable session with contributions from Chris Powell of Man Man and Jesse Sparhawk. The power of Alexis’s voice is staggering, layers and layers of vocals became the focal point of the record.
